Laying Carpet Tile at a Local Women & Children's Shelter

For a few hours this morning, my friend and fellow designer, Kristin and I volunteered to help lay down carpet tile at a local women and children's shelter in downtown Hartford called My Sister's Place. Our local Interface Commercial carpet tile rep emailed us a few weeks ago to see if anyone would be interested in volunteering to carpet two 4-bedroom apartments at the shelter. We were both quick to respond, "Yes." Interface developed a sustainable and innovative way to lay carpet tiles without glue or adhesive. They patented these square, super tough stickers called Tac Tiles and you basically adhere them to the underside of the tile at each corner. The tiles just float on top of your floor.

The beauty of carpet tiles is that if anything happens to the floor, you don't have to replace everything, just that one tile. These tiles are about 20" x 20" and made from recycled materials. You can purchase tiles for your home through their residential division known as FLOR.

Here are some photos from our install this morning.

It was super rewarding to spend a couple of hours helping update these two apartments. I'm glad I was able to help out.

  2. The carpet tiles available in this modern time are easy to use, install and replace if their are spoiled. An individual can easily install carpet tiles in his home by following few steps.

  3. These carpet tiles simply look great. The main advantage of carpet tiles is that when they start to wear with age they can be easily placed.
