I have been so busy this past year, trying to find some balance between being a good mom, going back to work, keeping up with house stuff, it's been crazy. My husband is a huge help, and that I am grateful, but it's been challenging and amazing all at the same time. Harper is a wonderful, happy little girl, so I had to throw her a huge bash of course. <br />
<br />
Since her birthday is August 23rd, I wanted to take advantage of being outside with family and friends, and utilizing our screened porch and backyard. I'm a December baby and never had a birthday party outside. I knew we were going to have a lot of little kids in attendance so I thought putting on a country fair with games they could play would be fun and it was a total success! Who needs a jumpy house when you can quickly create your own games from stuff you can find around your house, Dollar Tree store and free wood pallets. <br />
<br />
First I searched on Pinterest and pinned a lot of great ideas other moms did for their kids' parties. Here's a list of the games we had:<br />
<br />
"Bucket Ball" - My dad screwed $1 buckets onto a wood pallet I sourced for free from a lobster shack down at the shore. The owner let me take as many as I wanted and now my husband is using them for his own projects. The wiffle balls were free from my sister's boys. <br />
<br />
"Ring Toss" - I cleaned 9 Sierra Nevada beer bottles my husband enjoyed and my dad glued them to a piece of plywood I sourced at Michaels for $4. I could have cut a piece of scrap wood but I was just running out of time. The rings were a pack of 5 glow in the dark bracelets from the Dollar Tree. <br />
<br />
"Tin Can Alley" - I stacked two of the free wood pallets, used Ikea baskets as a base that I already had lying around our home and when Harper finished her "Graduate" puffs, I cleaned the can and used those as my tin cans. It was super cute. <br />
<br />
"Gone Fishin'" - We filled up Harper's kiddie pool with water, and we bought two sets of little fishing pole & plastic fish at the party store. They were on sale for $1.99 per set since it was the end of the summer. <br />
<br />
"Bean Bag Toss" - My friend let us borrow her bean bag toss tailgate game which was perfect<br />
<br />
"Photo Booth" - we hung up a quilt between two trees, set up a bale of hay in front and my nephew helped me make a ton of masks I downloaded for free (search on google) and printed a photo booth sign (another pinterest find). I bought a few more fun dress up items at Dollar Tree. <br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
As for décor, I wanted quilts everywhere, bales of hay and old vintage looking windows. I sourced the quilts from Mike's aunt who quilts and sent down 4 from Massachusettes, perfect! My father picked up two bales of hay one we used at the "Photo Booth" and another was out in the backyard as seating with a scrap piece of fabric that I had. Driving in our neighborhood one night I saw that my neighbor was replacing all his windows and had a stack of 6-pane wood windows he was going to trash. I knocked on his door and he let me take two of them. I printed all of Harper's monthly photos and set them in the window panes using masking tape and scrapbook paper. <br />
<br />
Other photos on display were taken at a local farm by my sister. Its nice to have a photographer in the family. My sister had a "Smash the Cake" session with Harper which was super cute. Other décor items were 4 photo books I created on Shutterfly to document Harper's first year, mason jars with cute cut out tops (Amazon) and pink and white striped straws from Michael's, mini bale of hay from Jo-Ann Fabrics and quilts used as tablecloths really added a lot of color to the party. My girlfriend let us borrow her cotton candy and popcorn machine which was a huge hit. The kids and adults loved it. Overall it was a great party, one we will always remember. <br />

I didn't realize how hard it would be to find time to blog and do DIY projects with a baby. Harper is five months now and she is just amazing. Amazing enough to nap for me so that I can share my latest DIY project with you. With the help of my very good friend Kristen of the blog "Hit Refresh" she posted easy directions to follow. This is what you'll need:</span></div><div><br></div><div>- hot glue gun</div><div>- package of bamboo skewers</div><div>- 7" diameter mirror (found at michael's)</div><div>- 7" needlepoint circle (found at michael's)</div><div>- 7" plywood circle for the back (found at michael's in unfinished wood projects aisle)</div><div>- metallic spray paint</div><div>- Sharpie and ruler</div><div>- command strips to mount</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoOyVcoKvuAPKBuDWlwH9xZyLosLyXzIUjUrCJmm3Fa7b1OqzrxTVsDrI-3TIIc28XkQOEtk6N62VnZiObOGSCaAGEdalTCYdllFOrwcwx8VcrlCejHX-hRdqpo90_lOZjQQFQqSSP3Mpz/s640/blogger-image-453855675.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoOyVcoKvuAPKBuDWlwH9xZyLosLyXzIUjUrCJmm3Fa7b1OqzrxTVsDrI-3TIIc28XkQOEtk6N62VnZiObOGSCaAGEdalTCYdllFOrwcwx8VcrlCejHX-hRdqpo90_lOZjQQFQqSSP3Mpz/s640/blogger-image-453855675.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">1. On August 23 our baby girl graced us with her presence and she's amazing. As I blogged about earlier we didn't know what we were having and we are so thrilled that it's a little girl. It's definitely been a labor of love because I really wanted everything just perfect and there were moments when I thought we wouldn't finish it. As I talked about in past blog posts, I needed to create a gender-neutral nursery based on our love for traveling. Mike and I want our baby to know of all the places we've been to and lived since we met in college 12 years ago. We also want our baby to know his or her roots. Roots that come from Peru, Greece, and Ireland, not just where we grew up in Connecticut and Massachusetts. <div><br></div><div>The color palette derived from two prints we bought during our trip to Paris nearly two years ago. I knew that one day I would use them in our baby's nursery. I pulled a light blue green, pale yellow and brought in gray. I figured the room would be brought to life with other colors from the baby's toys and books. </div><div><br></div><div>My good camera died on me (horrible timing) so I had to use my iPhone. Hopefully I can have my sister to take some professional photos once the baby arrives. Hope you like it! </div><div><br></div><div><b>Resources</b></div><div>Paint: Benjamin Moore "Woodlawn blue"; Martha Stewart "popcorn" (white) and "haystack" (yellow)</div><div>Campaign dresser: $40 used furniture find we refinished in Benjamin Moore "kingswood gray"</div><div>Crib: Target</div><div>Crib skirt: DIY project, fabric from www.fabric.com</div><div>Crib sheet: Target</div><div>Glass table lamps: Target</div><div>Book wall ledges: IKEA</div><div>Cubby shelf with baskets: IKEA</div><div>Cordless window shades: Babies R Us</div><div>Upholstered rocking chair: www.hayneedle.com</div><div>Jute rug with yellow trim: www.rugsusa.com</div><div>Connecticut pillow: DIY project using a dish towel from the CT Historical Museum gift shop</div><div>Graphic prints: DIY project using photoshop, frames from the Christmas Tree Shop</div><div>"My Roots Lie Here" map: www.childreninspiredesign.com </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ35VNQeR9ZUhj_tHLG_SgJaFPO8Cn2m_Z3HI69GhpRw7rDGLXfpT9yl0Zvv5h9wCCRhPvYg4nAyZiJ5E66-htLDvA7FPAkPmqVfV3m7GlOLNBy09Sf91NUWwsM-1xMcyB4HpFf4e9l_Da/s640/blogger-image-1136459747.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; He finished painting our $40 Campaign dresser find which looks fantastic. I finished putting away all the baby's clothes. This weekend the window shades are going up and we need to finish painting the closet doors and the new nursery door my dad installed. We might even fit in a little beach time this weekend. But here's a little teaser that I facebooked over the weekend. I'm planning on sharing "before and after" photos with all of you very soon. <br />

Just wanted to share some before and after shots of my sister's living room fireplace. She's been talking about wanting to get rid of the dark, dingy brick look of her fireplace for awhile now. today she got around to repainting the brick and what a difference. It's amazing what a little paint can do. It completely transformed the look of her fireplace and brightened it up a lot. <br />

I couldn't find exactly what I wanted online or in a catalog, and when I tried to customize the bedding online it cost a small fortune. <div><br></div><div>I don't have a step-by-step tutorial for these since I was just winging it. Also, being 8 months pregnant it just seemed like a bridge too far to document each step. There are a ton of tutorials online to make your own and many don't require a sewing machine. I chose to sew mine that way I could wash everything when I need to versus using only the no sew tape which could unravel in the wash. Here are a few photos. This weekend I'm planning on decorating the walls with some custom artwork I created in photoshop. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgACBT6uymXIr2k03CRkUOi0XZJH1rxHvtrEpuzp50fIP_I-tul30X-VPDYe_HTjcucw3viHV_CNobc9dekcBdedbyIK7lIWHMksO8b48UJ-4Kp55EDAH4PKamvbL7xf38LsWS03sgsZyb1/s640/blogger-image-1225880974.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgACBT6uymXIr2k03CRkUOi0XZJH1rxHvtrEpuzp50fIP_I-tul30X-VPDYe_HTjcucw3viHV_CNobc9dekcBdedbyIK7lIWHMksO8b48UJ-4Kp55EDAH4PKamvbL7xf38LsWS03sgsZyb1/s640/blogger-image-1225880974.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSzIjhMUqK7FYR7nb4duKcREj_qYM9u71iA1vkmqpR-JpPKjbG66dcFPMeAy7T5Z_arPml6D8d0n2gyufsP5DBINS9dkbdMoaILVfYdMies5-9sS7DvgTxc1U-S8RYkSoN37-upEF_q3wZ/s640/blogger-image--111999698.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSzIjhMUqK7FYR7nb4duKcREj_qYM9u71iA1vkmqpR-JpPKjbG66dcFPMeAy7T5Z_arPml6D8d0n2gyufsP5DBINS9dkbdMoaILVfYdMies5-9sS7DvgTxc1U-S8RYkSoN37-upEF_q3wZ/s640/blogger-image--111999698.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhsD_-Eco3jW9fAswXLJLOuQGjdN6gWQqdnqVYfZ89JC1ca9eGRs6U4oBJr9VMzl_-5XQUSic8d7EayX5F41C8vk0f40utmTDJXKH6JJKiKASWcYkft4dnoFWbX8wmR1om9oH6l9xnAo9i/s640/blogger-image-1001828378.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhsD_-Eco3jW9fAswXLJLOuQGjdN6gWQqdnqVYfZ89JC1ca9eGRs6U4oBJr9VMzl_-5XQUSic8d7EayX5F41C8vk0f40utmTDJXKH6JJKiKASWcYkft4dnoFWbX8wmR1om9oH6l9xnAo9i/s640/blogger-image-1001828378.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Resources:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Chevron fabric - www.fabric.com</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Breathable bumper - www.babiesrus.com</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Fitted yellow and white chevron sheet - www.target.com</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">White fleece for custom blanket - used blanket from IKEA</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Crib - www.target.com</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br></div><br></div>The Room Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10130239425609070165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4066267706826828018.post-24896926306776509682013-07-03T10:33:00.000-04:002013-07-03T10:33:32.859-04:00Private Client Master Bedroom Design - Concept BoardDefinitely looking forward to the 4th of July holiday weekend. Mike, baby, me and the dogs are headed to see Mike's family in Maine and the weather forecast looks great. It's going to be nice to put my feet up for a few days and just relax before our baby arrives next month. <br />
<br />
In the meantime, as all of you get ready for this holiday weekend, I thought I'd share a recent interior design concept board I put together for a friend and colleague of mine. He approached me a month ago and said that he would like to surprise his wife with an interior design plan for their master bedroom as an anniversary gift. What a great gift, right? They had discussed some initial ideas and also purchased two bedside tables from Ethan Allen that they wanted to work into the design, the rest could change. I was really excited about this project because it gave me a little break from commercial design and their design aesthetic from what he described was very similar to what Mike and I have done with our master bedroom. Modern, yet classic and sophisticated. Here's what I came up with which they really liked and have already started to implement. Looking forward to seeing their "after" photos. <br />

She told me the other day, "I'm your family photographer for life." This past weekend, Mike and I (and baby) had our photos taken at the famed Elizabeth Park in Hartford, CT. Elizabeth Park is home to the country's oldest public rose garden and this time of year is the best because all the rose gardens are in full bloom. It was one of those hot, humid summer days, but my sister managed to make the two of us look great. I don't know how she does it. If you live in Connecticut, check out her website, <a href="http://www.mphanson.com/">www.mphanson.com</a> and there's also a link to her blog with her latest photos. <br />
<br />
Here are the ones she featured on her blog this week:<br />

Our baby is so blessed to have so many family and friends around to spoil him or her with so much love. I wanted to share all the great DIY details that my mom, sister and girlfriends pulled together. The theme of the shower was 'Mommy-to-Bee" and the color palette was white, yellow and gray since my husband and I have decided to keep the sex of the baby a surprise. Here are some of the photos my sister took the day of the shower and showcased on her photography blog: <a href="http://mphstudios.blogspot.com/">http://mphstudios.blogspot.com</a> <br />

Mike and I have lived in so many different places and we just love to travel whenever we can. We just got back from our 'babymoon' to Puerto Rico, amazing!<br />
<br />
One of the main art pieces in the nursery is this map. I just ordered it on <a href="http://www.childreninspiredesign.com/">www.childreninspiredesign.com</a> My friend Keri introduced me to this website, and I've had it pinned for some time now. You order the map and it comes with 4 heart stickers to place where the baby's roots are. In our case, it will be Peru, Ireland, Greece and of course USA. The print is 18 x 24" and at the bottom it reads "My Roots Lie Here". I think it's going to look great in the nursery, all framed, front and center. <br />

Here's a little information about the artist and her inspiration for this collection of maps "My Roots". </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<em>Rebecca Peragine, creator of Children Inspire Design, is known for her globally inspired art for children. So it's no wonder why her latest custom creation, the My Roots Collection, is filled with deep meaning for little ones. Not only is the art beautiful for both big and small, but the collection tells a story of how families come together from all parts of the world. Her art shows a child where family roots lie, a place they are connected to, whether it's ten or ten thousand miles away. </em><br />
<em>Parent and child can customize their own art by using heart stickers to locate and highlight a child's roots. A teaching moment that will last throughout the years.</em> <br />
<br />
<em>-Available in in blue, clay, or pink</em><br />
<em>-Made with recycled card stock, eco-friendly ink and packaged in recycled/biodegradable materials</em> <br />
<br />
<em><span style="font-size: small;">Children Inspire Design is a product line of modern, eco-friendly and culturally diverse wall art, wall cards and posters, full of whimsy, and designed to help children learn compassion for our earth and all who inhabit it. </span><span style="font-size: small;">Artist, mother and social entrepreneur, Rebecca Peragine, has combined her passion for global design with her desire to inspire children to celebrate eco-consciousness and the beauty of different world cultures.</span></em><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><em></em></span><br />
<em><span style="font-size: small;">Environmental education is at the heart of each design. Rebecca </span><span style="border-collapse: collapse; line-height: 16px;"><span style="font-size: small;">believes in embracing every opportunity to recycle and reuse. <span style="font-size: small;"><em></em></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><em>Rebecca firmly believes that if we teach the importance of global responsibility at a young age, carrying that responsibility into the future will be second nature for our children.</em></span><br />

Rough night last night, first night of this pregnancy where I didn't sleep through the whole night and I officially had to turn to the extra pillow between my legs to help fall asleep. Oh well, I just have to get used to this, right?<br />
<br />
A few of you have asked about online sources for DIY Roman Shades. I'm attempting to create some for our baby's nursery in the coming weeks. I'm hoping to go with a fun graphic pattern for the roman shades. I ordered a few swatches from <a href="http://www.fabric.com/">www.fabric.com</a>. <br />

We painted all the trim, Martha Stewart's "Popcorn", Mike painted the ceiling white and my parents and I painted all the walls Benjamin Moore's "Woodlawn Blue". I know these colors are different than what I had planned but late on Friday night after watching "House of Cards" (my new favorite show btw) I sat in the middle of the baby's room with dozens of paint colors around me until one spoke to me. I did the same thing early on Saturday morning when all this great sunlight was flooding the room and the Woodlawn Blue was the right choice. I also made a quick design board to have in the room for inspiration. I pulled some potential fabrics for my upcoming DIY roman shades and accent pillows, maybe even a crib dust ruffle if I'm feeling ambitious. I told you last Friday that I chose to go with a pale yellow, pale blue, navy blue and white scheme. Over the weekend I decided to add Coral back into the mix and I think it's going to work really well. Here's one custom print I created that shows the new palette. <br />

Here are some photos of the room all painted in Woodlawn Blue. I need paint the inside of the closet yellow, Martha Stewart's "Haystack" and we are going to add 12" high horizontal stripes to the north wall using the Popcorn white paint. These photos are from yesterday afternoon and are kind of dark, the color definitely has more green in it. It's a very soothing color. I love it!</div>

Below are some rendered elevations I quickly put together for the one accent wall in the room. It's going to be the wall you first see as you enter the nursery. I'm kind of diggin' the alternating version of blue and yellow, but let me know what your favorite is. I've also include a couple of renderings showing what custom DIY roman shades could look like. <br />

I ran into this problem with our kitchen remodel design. I spent months trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I'm thrilled with the end result but it took forever to get there. Now, I'm running into the same problem with our baby's nursery design. In my last blog post, I shared the nursery design, but something just wasn't right. My mom helped me figure out that I really wanted softer colors. The travel-inspired theme is still great, I just tweaked the color palette a little bit. So here's the latest design board and some custom artwork I came up with. The fabrics shown are just ideas. I ordered a bunch of swatches from <a href="http://www.fabric.com/">www.fabric.com</a> that should be coming in this week. <br />
<br />
Here are my initial thoughts: (I'm sure this will change 10 more times!)<br />
<ul>
<li>Create a Chevron or Striped accent wall, probably using the light blue and white paint.</li>
<li>Paint other three walls solid color - Ben Moore "Crystal blue"</li>
<li>Sew DIY roman shades with a blackout liner using a fun yellow patterned fabric (Great tutorial: <a href="http://goodlifeblog.org/diy-roman-shades/">http://goodlifeblog.org/diy-roman-shades/</a> )</li>
<li>Paint the inside of the closet yellow</li>
<li>Paint all trim and doors in Martha Stewart "Popcorn"</li>
<li>Refinish my $40 campaign dresser in Ben Moore "Santa Monica blue" - replace brass hardware</li>
<li>Frame custom artwork & travel keepsakes to create wall collage over dresser or crib</li>
<li>Create DIY mobile for over the crib. Something like this: <a href="http://www.whitetablestyle.com/2012/10/diy-mobile.html">http://www.whitetablestyle.com/2012/10/diy-mobile.html</a> </li>
</ul>

As I look out my window it's starting to snow again! Hopefully this is our last winter storm. I'm so ready for spring! Well, things are going well here. Baby is doing well and I'm almost 16 weeks already. Gosh, this pregnancy is flying by. People told me it would, but now I really believe them. <br />
<br />
So this weekend, Mike and I are planning to clean out one of our three bedrooms to make room for baby. I figured now is a great time to share with you my concept board for the room. We're not going to find out the sex of the baby, so I wanted to come up with a fun, stylish room that reflected Mike and I in some way. We decided on going with a travel/map theme based around the Dr. Seuss book (Dr. Seuss is from Springfield, MA, just like Mike) "Oh, the places you'll go". Mike and I have traveled all over since we first met back in 2001 and we've moved around a lot thanks to the army. I want to make sure Baby ends up traveling the world like we have and enjoys it as much as we do. We're already talking about all the places we want to bring the little guy or girl. Since most of our home is fairly neutral, I wanted to keep the walls neutral, but add bold pops of colors. The three accent colors are: navy blue, coral and light lime green/chartruese.<br />
<br />
Here's what I've come up with...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMIfSrDAjbjeFkRpMdp6HgTJ04A4tzqIhUvTpbW0TCIQoGxhHSdb6lPJG61L5u-lhEAsKv4WpRyBc_0TqpvlUm4j0-BJ0m30FysEWqdU5q01sU9SyW-Pr31ZkuQkDSwtxJRzONpXac5Qua/s1600/Baby+Lynch+Nursery+concept+board.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMIfSrDAjbjeFkRpMdp6HgTJ04A4tzqIhUvTpbW0TCIQoGxhHSdb6lPJG61L5u-lhEAsKv4WpRyBc_0TqpvlUm4j0-BJ0m30FysEWqdU5q01sU9SyW-Pr31ZkuQkDSwtxJRzONpXac5Qua/s640/Baby+Lynch+Nursery+concept+board.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We bought a campaign dresser for $40 a few months back that I need to refinish and paint. We're also going to be adding custom crown molding and wainscotting. I"m hoping to revamp some standard IKEA Expedit shelving and create vertical bookshelves and a bench with storage underneath. I initially wanted to wallpaper above the wainscotting, but what I fell in love with was too expensive. I have some leftover Revere Pewter paint that I'm thinking we'll use above the wainscotting, maybe in a horizontal stripe pattern. I've also found all this found custom artwork & graphics online that I'm going to recreate for the baby's room. Here's my first one. (an homage to Mike's time in combat when he was constantly on the radio with his soldiers).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Vv5eoBoMM-qrhR7s0e0_-kY4u37vxEAKeRbGcfMRaKlz9ML5wtcOglgbQ5OSLuyISgeJI7ujkeh3YDCxWHjC8PnTNGjApk38RKpRLCpSKqHmhVewdEwdVbzwHM73HBj6ULqm792tKX3M/s1600/narrow+poster+for+alphabet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Vv5eoBoMM-qrhR7s0e0_-kY4u37vxEAKeRbGcfMRaKlz9ML5wtcOglgbQ5OSLuyISgeJI7ujkeh3YDCxWHjC8PnTNGjApk38RKpRLCpSKqHmhVewdEwdVbzwHM73HBj6ULqm792tKX3M/s400/narrow+poster+for+alphabet.jpg" width="130" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When we traveled to Paris last March, I snagged two really fun, vibrant posters of Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower that have a kid's feel to them. Both are in bright primary colors and depict every day Parisians walking around with their little dogs, kids with balloons in the background, etc. I had them framed at Michael's a few months back and they came out amazing. I can't wait to hang those up as well. I'm so excited! Stay tuned for more Baby nursery updates!</div>

I'm going to try and take photos every other week, then every week towards the end of the pregnancy. I've been working on a scrapbook for the baby so these photos will go in the scrapbook too, not just online. <br />
<br />
Here's our chalkboard just after we completed the renovation:<br />
<br />

<br />
Here I am at 12 weeks in front of the chalkboard!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc3cA-Nz3TKdZPSg-C1xCoTCOgHCmwvsnC5hvvXA0AeGPuSeIDkP7tLT366QAga7WGtVjtqSIbevCxYF4dBdrz6P-DCrOADThuxWgtS6vEE5zkmwh25rEeHE51yUB6Jt2YlooDhLhfscUp/s1600/12+weeks+chalkboard.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc3cA-Nz3TKdZPSg-C1xCoTCOgHCmwvsnC5hvvXA0AeGPuSeIDkP7tLT366QAga7WGtVjtqSIbevCxYF4dBdrz6P-DCrOADThuxWgtS6vEE5zkmwh25rEeHE51yUB6Jt2YlooDhLhfscUp/s320/12+weeks+chalkboard.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's so easy to add a chalkboard or marker board writable surface in your home. A quart of the chalkboard paint costs around $10 at Home Depot. You could even use painter's tape to section off part of the wall for your new message board. The "L" just above me is a vinyl decal. After nearly two years of trying, we're excited to announce that we're......<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong><span style="background-color: white; color: lime; font-size: large;"><u>Having a baby!!</u></span></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong></strong> </div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
I'd love to say that this truly was our greatest "DIY Project" to date, but we needed a little help. After a year of trying on our own, I knew something wasn't right. My OB/GYN recommended we see fertility specialists at the UCONN Health Center where the next part of our journey began. Long story short, I fall into that weird category of "unexplained infertility". Not very comforting, and not what I wanted to hear, but our amazing doctor was optimistic and encouraged us to not lose hope. Both of us are healthy, young and perfect candidates for infertility treatment. The months went by, procedures added up and still nothing. Finally, we came to the realization that we would have to do IVF or in vitro fertilization. My younger sister had two healthy boys without any issues, so I couldn't understand why I was having so many problems. Until this day, I don't know, maybe I was stressing out about it too much, or overthinking things. (I tend to do that a lot if you know me well.) Who knows!</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
Well, Mike and I talked about it and decided to go for it. Two days later a huge box of drugs, needles, gauze and a mini sharps container arrived at my door step. I laid it all out on the kitchen counter and said "I look like a drug addict". It was crazy, but let me tell you those drugs work! Immediately, I could feel my body change and prepare itself for this IVF treatment. I can honestly say that my husband remained amazing and so supportive through the whole process. He doesn't have a medical background and every night for over a month he had to give me my shots. We cried and we laughed through the whole thing. If it wasn't for him, I don't know how I would have made it through. </div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
A few weeks before Christmas the doctor said I was ready for my egg retrieval where they put you under and surgically remove the over-abundance of eggs from your ovaries to fertilize in the lab. I guess I'm an over-achiever because they were able to get a lot of eggs! (thank God) Those eggs were immediately brought to the lab and fertilized, where they began to develp into embryos. Five days later I went back in for the big "transfer". It was so exciting, I got to see my little embryo on the screen and just laid there hoping this would work. Two weeks later, the doctor office called just shy of Christmas to tell us we were pregnant! I swear all my prayers had been answered. It truly was the best news I ever heard. </div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
So here I am, about to start my second trimester and sporting a little baby bump. I'm lucky to have not experienced any morning sickness, just pure exhaustion, but it's a great feeling because you know your body is working overtime to create this amazing life inside of you. Some women would keep this type of personal information to themselves, and maybe I would have if it was a different matter, but for some reason I felt compelled to share my story because so many women go through this everyday. Everyone has a different journey when they choose to have a baby. After everything we went through to get here, I really do appreciate it all and I wouldn't change it for anything.</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
Now the exciting part begins, prepping for baby! I've started a design concept board for the baby and I'll be sure to share all the projects for the nursery in the coming months. </div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
Have a great weekend, everyone! </div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>

Tomorrow, I have my husband's full attention to help me paint the living room in Benjamin Moore's "Revere Pewter" <br />

</tbody></table>
For over a year now, we've been living with Benjamin Moore's Beach Glass in the living room, which is a light blue gray with green undertones, a really soothing color. But with our kitchen in blue Ben Moore's Kentucky Haze, I felt like there's too much blue on the 1st floor, and I need to change it. My husband totally agreed, yay! We also had our TV professionally mounted over our fireplace mantel (photos to follow). I always said I'd never would do this, but one day we decided to rearrange the living room and realized we gained a ton more space my having the TV over the fireplace. The living room feels so much bigger now. As soon as everything is complete, I'll make sure to take updated photos to post on the blog. <br />

Emails started to fly around the office on Friday morning and it just got progressively worse. I don't understand how someone could do this to beautiful, innocent little children. It's crazy. I sat glued to my TV last night watching the interfaith service in Newtown and hanging on to the President's every word and his promise to do everything in his power to make a change so this doesn't happen again. This tragedy has definitely opened up dialogue and conversation about Americans across the countery regarding our current gun laws, and mental health support in this country. It's sad to me that it takes something as horrific as the Newtown shooting to get people thinking about this, but at least we're all thinking about it and talking about it now. <br />
<br />
I don't have children yet, but I do have two precious nephews, Jaxon and Wesley. Jaxon is 4 and Wesley is almost 9 months. On Friday night, after all of this happened, my husband and I visited them, my sister and brother-in-law and parents for pizza night. It was so great to be surrounded by family and these two very special little boys. <br />
<br />
Life moves on, we go back to work, children head back to school today and we all get ready for this holiday season and New Years. Before we all get wrapped up in our hectic daily lives, let's not forget what happened in Newtown. I know I won't. My thoughts and prayers go to all of those families and friends of the victims and the community of Newtown, Connecticut. <br />

I tried to clean it but it was ruined. Not fun, but his cuteness helps me forget all of that pretty quickly. Anyway, I love <a href="http://www.rugsusa.com/">RugsUSA</a>. We ordered our dining room rug from that website a few months ago and are very happy with it. I got free shipping for an 8' x 10' rug. You can't beat that. Well, right now they are having a huge Black Friday sale and a lot of their rugs are 75% off! That's right, 75% off! I just scored this 8' x 10' replacement rug for the living room and I'm super excited for it to arrive. Once the rug is in, I'll try to take some updated photos of our living room. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!<br />

Definitely looking forward to this Thanksgiving holiday and spending some quality time with the family. So I wanted to share with you my latest used furniture purchase that is currently taking up room in our little garage. <br />
<br />
I had mentioned in a previous post how I scoped out a campaign dresser at a local antiques store. Well, recently I went back to the store to see if they still had the dresser and they did! After taking a look at it closely I realized that one of the handles was broken so that helped me negotiate a better price of $40!!! Score! Now you have to be creative and image this dresser in a bold, high gloss paint with all refurbished brass hardware. It's going to look amazing. I'm hoping that I can use it one of our bedrooms. <br />

It definitely was a team effort, my Dad, brother-in-law Chris and I all worked on laying new white 2" x 4" subway tile at my sister's new home. Melissa wanted something modern, but she's on a tight budget so buying expensive backsplash tile was out of the question. Her new granite counters have a lot of pattern, so my suggestion was to keep it clean, white and simple. I convinced her to flip the subway tile 90 degrees and lay it out vertically, and what a difference! You can also see her cabinets are painted white, they were originally that standard builder's grade honey maple finish. They painted everything before they moved in and saved themselves a ton of money on that DIY project as well. Next on the list, looking for new light fixtures. <br />

When I first saw the long line and people were talking about a 45 minute wait, I got annoyed. But then it occurred to me that my husband and so many others like him fought hard and sacrificed so much so I could stand in this 45-minute long line to cast my vote. So I stopped being ridiculous and waited and after I was done it felt so great to know that I voted. Make sure you get out there today and vote if you can, it's so important. <br />
<br />
Here's another reason why I vote. For a better future for my amazing nephews, Jaxon and Wesley. They rocked the vote today with my sister. Aren't they so cute?!!!<br />
