A Doctor's L.A. Bachelor Pad

Earlier this fall, I had posted a contest for a free design concept board for a space in your home. The winner ended up being my husband's old college roommate, Eamonn, now a successful orthopedic surgeon living in the Los Angeles area. He emailed me some photos of his open plan apartment. He basically needed some help with space planning and some furniture ideas. Here's a look at some of the existing photos. Eamonn has a brand new kitchen that overlooks the dining space and a large living room with a corner fireplace and glass doors looking out onto views of the ocean. It's pretty sweet. Mike and I need to plan a trip out to California to visit him once the craziness of law school is over.

And here's what I came up with for the living room and dining room space. Everything is from West Elm (www.westelm.com) and Overstock (www.o.com)

In the living room, we talked about flipping his sofa so that its back faces the kitchen. This way, Eamonn will have a view of both the TV and outside as well as the fireplace. The cable hookup is on the opposite corner of the fireplace, so he can't mount his TV above the fireplace.

The dining room is a small space, I didn't want to clutter  it with too many items, hence the very simple image board. Eamonn could put up some personal items on the wall, artwork if he likes.

Also, to add a punch of a bright, fun color, I suggested incorporating some orange tones into the space. Orange complements blue, so this could be added through throw pillows, accesories, artwork, etc. Anything in the orange family tone would work.
